Rock Stars

A few weeks ago, Curtis' office gave him the video game "Rock Band" for his Birthday. When he told me that they gave him this generous gift, my first thought was what the heck are we going to do with that. It has turned out to be a lot of fun and we can all play together. It is the only video game I don't mind playing with the kids. Dax does really well on the guitar, I usually do drums, and Curtis does vocals. It is really funny. I can't imagine what we would sound like without the game helping us out.

Memory Tree

This is our new Jacaranda Tree, it was just planted last week. This was a gift from Curtis' family in memory of my mom. I love Jacaranda's and I'm excited to see it grow. It was so thoughtful of his family, especially his sister Alisa, who arranged it all. We will enjoy it for many years.

Boy #3

We had our ultrasound today and they are pretty certain Baby #3 is a boy. I think Derek is a little disappointed. He wanted a sister. Dax thought it would be a girl too, but right now he is more concerned of all the noise and mess 3 boys will make. I guess he doesn't think 2 boys is that loud or messy.

I am not disappointed at all. Everything looked good on the ultrasound. Baby is Breech for now and measuring a little big. Possibly an early baby YEA!

Tim McGraw

Yesterday someone at KFYI (where Curtis does his radio show) called him up and said he could have Tim McGraw tickets for that night. The concert was at Crickett Pavillion (formerly Blockbuster Pavillion, formerly Desert Sky Pavillion). Neither of us had been there before and it is outdoors. It was 113 in Phoenix yesterday, nice time for an outdoor concert. We had really good seats and we had a good time despite the fact that the concert was in an oven. This was our second time to see Tim McGraw last time he was with his wife, Faith Hill.

Payson

The First week in June I spent five days North of Payson in Long Valley with Girls Camp. I was asked back in March if I could help. I had never been to girls camp before, and I felt like I should go this time. Despite the fact that I hate camping, I actually had a fun time and met some really nice people. It was freezing cold at night, but I was well prepared and slept warm most nights. It was all good except for the camping part.

Last weekend, I took the boys up there again for a few days. We had a good time. I took them to this little river and there were a bunch of other people there who showed Dax and Derek how to catch crawdads. Derek caught a few little baby ones, then Dax went to the other side and caught about six huge adult ones. They had a great time. Dax's new favorite restaurant is Denny's, and we had a fun time telling jokes to each other at night.

Last Day of School

BubbleShare - Preschool Grad - By Marilyn May 28th was the last day of school. Derek had preschool graduation on the 29th. He will continue to go through July until he starts Kindersteps at Hamilton. Dax is thrilled to be out of school and he will take some Summer Science classes that are supposed to be fun. Launching rockets and playing with goop.

Art Masterpiece

I'm a little behind on blogging and this actually was done about a month ago.

This is Dax's interpretation (right) of Edward Hopper's painting "Groundswell". I have been helping in his classroom this school year with the Art Masterpiece program. Chandler school district does not have a true art program, so they have parents come in once a month and teach a lesson about an assigned artist and painting. It is fun to see what the kids come up with after they are taught the lesson and art principles.


For this project the kids were using watercolor so we put newspaper on their desks so they didn't make a mess on their desks. I walked by Dax and he had a newspaper that just happened to have one of Curtis' Real Estate ads on it. I pointed to it and asked him who that was. He got all excited and said "WOW my Dad is starting to get famous" Then he pulled out the newspaper and went around and showed his whole class and the substitute teacher. He was telling everyone that his Dad was the boss of a Realty Company called Curtis Johnson Realty, his Dad was Curtis Johnson. He was really proud. Then I heard other kids say, "My Dad isn't in the newspaper" I didn't know it would cause a raucous in the class. I just thought he would like to see a picture of his Dad before he smeared paint all over.

Dax's announcement

On March 30th we told the kids we were going to have a baby. Since it was so early on in the pregnancy we told them to keep it a secret for a bit. Dax kept the secret for one day and then he cracked. Here is a letter he wrote to a classmate, when the class was practicing letter writing. He wrote it to Mallory Carroll, since I know her mom, Liz, she gave me a copy of the letter. I didn't edit the spelling or punctuation. This is how Dax wrote it.

The letter says:

4/1/08

Dear Mallory,

You and me are very alike. Like you and me are sort of crazy. Maybe you whold like to come over again. If you want to hear a secret anser this queshten. What is the subject of the secret. Anser: *The subject is my mom.

Surprising, isn't it, *A baby coming? (*written upside down). Good bye for now, Mallory Caroll.

We thought it was cute.

I soon realized that Derek was telling everyone as well. The secret is out. If you don't want anyone to know anything, don't tell your kids.

Derek's Sister?????

A few weeks ago I picked Derek up from Preschool and his teacher said "look who Derek's friend is." I don't know if you can see in the picture but at the top it says "Me and my Friend, in the bottom left he drew his friend "My Sister" and Derek is on the right. Derek has been saying since the beginng that we are going to have a girl. He tells everyone it is a girl, and people are coming up to us and saying "I heard it's a girl" I have the Ultrasound scheduled for 06/26/08. Then we will know for sure. I think he will be devistated if it is a boy.

Star Student- Dax

Dax was chosen to be the Star Student in his class for a week. He filled out this poster about himself. My favorite part is when he was supposed to describe his family he put " Mom, Dad, brother and "new" secret member. Then his entire class new about the new baby. I think most of the class already knew. Mrs. Jiminez, his teacher told me he came to her one day and seemed a little concerned about something. He said "Mrs. Jiminez I need to tell you something". She thought maybe something was wrong or it was something about another student. He was so excited he couldn't keep it in any longer. He told her and all his friends about the new family member.

Amber's Wedding

On May 7th, Derek and I flew to Baltimore, MD for my cousin, Amber Frost's wedding. Derek was such a great little traveler and we had a great time staying at my cousin Amy. Derek loved playing with her girls Shannon (11), Kaitlyn (5), and Kelly (3).

Derek got to ride in the Limo, which he thought was way cool, and Jason Wareham, (Amy's husband) even let Derek drive his truck in the church parking lot. It rained a lot while we were back there. Something we don't see a lot of here in AZ. The school was even postponed for two hrs for the kids because of flooding.

Derek

Derek is our second son. He is was born 12/23/03 our little Christmas present that year. He goes to preschool and he loves the Rocky movies and especially the music. We listen to "Rocky" over and over in the car. He and Dax love to play Star Wars (video games, legos and the movie) together and most recently they are into Pirates of the Caribbean (Campbaribean as Derek calls it) and Indiana Jones (Babyana Jones). He loves to play with Sean Paterick, the boy across the street, and his best buddy Britton Platt. Derek was quite good buddies with our dog Farley who just passed away in March. He woke up everymorning and said "where is my friend Farley?" I think they would like a new pet, but we are not up for that as a new baby is coming. Derek tells people "Detmer died (our dog that died back in 10/05) Farley died, and Grandma died. Everyone dies at our town. "

A few months ago I was at Sam's Club and we were walking out to have the clerk check our receipt. There were a few people in front of us so we had to wait. Derek looked at the lady checking receipts and she was very wrinckly in the face (I thought she looked like she has smoked for years). Derek said "what happend to that lady's face?" He said it kind of loud and I was trying to hush him and tell him to be nice and talk quite and he kept going on and on "What happend to that lady her face is ruined?" Then he kept poking his own face and saying "her face is ruined" I couldn't get him to talk quiet and I'm sure the lady heard him. I guess you shouldn't smoke so you don't ruin your face.

Recently I was cooking something and Derek wanted to climb onto the counter to see it. I told him to climb down and get the step ladder if he wanted to help me cook. He was laying and crawling on the counter and I was afraid he would knock into the hot stove and get burned. I said "Derek get down" he looked up and said "this is a safetly violation" I started laughing outloud because it was. I don't know where he learned those words. At least he has a good vocabulary.
