OUCH!!!

Derek was taking out the recycle bin the other day.  I was cleaning out a bunch of old shoe boxes, so instead of the kids making multiple multiple trips to the recycle bin, I rolled the big outside bin right up to the front door so we could all pick up a few boxes and start dumping them in.

Derek opened up the front door and was about to step out in his bare feet when he started screaming "scorpion" he had been stung on his big right toe.  All the kids are terrified of scorpions which they should be, but I hated to have this happen.  It started all kinds of chaos in our house, Dax was screaming to call 911.  I know that scorpion stings are like bee stings, painful, but not deadly.  Curtis had been stung a few months back and he survived quite well.  I know we didn't need 911 and it isn't much you can do about it unless there is an allergic reaction. Mostly to appease the kids I called poison control. In the meantime, Derek is screaming in pain, and yelling that the potion is going up his leg, etc.

As I was talking to the man at poison control he was asking me who got stung, how old etc.  Then he said something like "is that him I hear screaming and wailing" I said yes, then he asked, "is he really in that much pain, or is he being dramatic?"  "Both," I said.  Derek can be very dramatic when it comes to pain and injury, but he did legitimately seem like he was in a lot of pain.

While I was talking to poison control Dax goggled Scorpion sting and he was very helpful getting Derek some soap to wash it out etc.  It was a bit crazy and chaotic with all the screaming, Dax running around, and I was trying to talk to poison control.  Within an hr Derek started to feel better, but he did still have a little pain and numbness for about a day.  Happily, he recovered quickly.

Poison Control was great they called back every few hours to check on him and make sure his symptoms didn't worsen.  Thankfully they did not.

OREO

We have a new family member, this is Oreo, a Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin).  She is 6 yrs old and weighs a whopping 7 lbs.  She belonged to Curtis' sister, but her kids have grown and the dog was spending most of her time locked up in her kennel while everyone was at school and work.  They felt like she would be happier in a new home where she could get more love.  This dog is getting all types of love now.
The kids were very much looking forward to getting her, we had to wait about a month from the time we asked the kids if they would take care of her, to the time she was delivered.  The kids would ask every few days "when are we getting our dog".  Dax read every book at his school library about dogs and Min Pins. She finally arrived on Easter Weekend.

Little Oreo has been with us for 3 weeks now and they love, love, love her.  Derek is constantly carrying her around and kissing her.  Both Dax and Derek like to take her on walks, and they fight over whose bed she is going to sleep in for the night.  They do a good job of keeping her fed and watered and cleaning up after her.  No complaining when we remind them.  That was our agreement if they wanted a pet they had to be on board and take responsibility.  I did not have the desire to take care of one more "anything".  I'm glad she was such a good fit leaving one family and coming to a new one.  She reminds Curtis and me so much of our previous Min Pin "Detmer"  they look so much alike and have a very similar personalities.  The only difference is Detmer was a lot bigger (and fatter for a time).

Her original family named her "Baby" we didn't want a dog named "Baby" so the kids chose Oreo, although the name Baby was very fitting, because she loves to be touched and held.  She is the true definition of a "Lap Dog" We are happy to have her.
