MoPro

The school year is winding down.  Dax took the ACT and got a 33/36 which is pretty AMAZING for a Junior.  He placed in the 99th percentile.  ASU requires a minimum score of 22, BYU requires a minimum of 27.  I think his chances are pretty good.  Dax also just took the AP exams for English and Chemistry, we won't get those results until July.
We're on the home stretch for this year and now the fun stuff is happening.

MoPro=Mormon Prom

I don't know who exactly is in charge of this event, or how happens each year but a good chunk of the LDS kids from the east Valley go and have a great time.  It takes place at the Barney Sports Complex in Queen Creek.  I know the Barney family is LDS, so it is very generous of them to share their facility with 300 + teenagers each year.

Dax went with Taylor Blackwell. A girl in our ward who is on the same wavelength as Dax. We're pretty good friends with Taylor's family.  They were a good match for each other.  They are both brainiacs, they both go to brainiac schools (not the same school) they don't always get included with the Hamilton High School (main school) crowd. Social situations are not a strength for Taylor or Dax. They had a great time together.

There was a big group of them that went together.  They started the night by having dinner at the Owen's home.  Dax knew Garrett Owens from middle school.  His parents like to host this formal dinner.  It was a nice experience for the kids they ate off china and crystal and had a very nice meal prepared.  All the parents chipped in with the side dishes and appetizers, it was a bargain. $10/ couple.  It would have easily been $100/ couple at a restaurant. The MoPro tickets were pretty inexpensive as well. Those were $12.  Dax wore Curtis' Tuxedo that we have more than gotten our money's worth.  I think with the flowers, matching bow tie/cummerbund, dinner, and tickets the entire night cost about $50, a bargain prom.   After the prom, they had an after party at the Thomas' house.  Fun times for everyone.

Kentucky Derby

I don't know what got into me, or how this idea even came into my head.  I was talking with my friends one day and they were saying how they wished there were more social opportunities for the teenagers.  At that moment I decided to have a Kentucky Derby party for the kids 16ish+.  I don't know anything about the state of Kentucky except they have some really good fried chicken.  I don't know anything about horses.  I only know the Kentucky Derby is a horse race where people get dressed up and wear fancy hats.  It was a fun party, and the kids had a great time and I think they really liked dressing up and having the fun hats and clothes.  It forced us (mainly me) to clean up the house and get rid of things that needed to go along time ago.
