Since Derek turned eight in December, it is time for Baptism. It is too crazy to do a Birthday Party for him on his actual Birthday (2 days before Christmas) so we had one big day to celebrate this year. Baptism then Birthday Party. Here is the invite we passed out to his friends, kind of similar to what we did for Dax when he turned eight. We wanted to keep it simple, so Derek only invited a few friends from his Primary class. It was very nice. Only us

 five Johnsons, Bishop Thomas and his son Weston, his friend Analena Knauer, her Mom Anna, and her sister Mauren. Dax gave the talk on the Holy Ghost and did a great job.

Derek and Analena, have been friends since they were in the same Pre-K class.

Followed by the Birthday Party at Stratum Laser Tag. (Top Left) Isiah, Dallin Blacker, Dax Johnson, Sean Paterick, Brock Duran, David Schenter,(Bottom Left) Analena Knauer, Derek Johnson, Weston Thomas, Ben Jones. It was a fun/special day. He got lots of great gifts, nerf gun, money, Halo Mega Blocks, Hex Bug, and Pirates of the Caribbean figures, and we had Spider-man Cupcakes

PineWood Derby

Now that Derek is eight, he is in cub scouts. Fresh out, he did the Pinewood Derby yesterday. This year we had my brother ,Steve, help with the car. He actually owns tools and it was a big improvement over out last attempts. Derek's car did well, he won a few "heats" or was a close second. I think he came in 4th overall, which is a huge improvement for this family. His friend ,Britton, came in first. His car didn't loose a single race, and it was Fast!

Derek had decided long ago he wanted flames on his car (he is a pyro, loves fire). He chose silver for the color and we added some blue flames. On the back we put a "license plate" that says D-Bomb with a little bomb picture. That is what Derek calls himself, D-Bomb.

Flagstaff-Snow

For Martin Luther King Day we took a quick trip up to Flagstaff, the kids were off school and we hadn't been up for a while. While we were there we had my brother, Steve, help Derek build his pinewood Derby car. Much easier task when you have tools.We woke up Monday Morning to Snow. Just enough to play in for a few hours, but the streets were melted and clear by the time we left.

Trey loved clearing snow off the cars. He calls this old 1967 Ford truck the "Fire truck"

For as much as we go to Flagstaff, this was the first time the kids have actually seen snow fall from the sky. It was a fun trip.
